I was reading Tammy’s Blog Quilt Therphy (it’s a must-read) about how her daughter went to her sewing room and made a quilt. How proud Tammy was that she went out there and just did it.
So, I thought I would tell you my story about my daughters and sewing!
When my daughters called to ask if we could make a skirt I was so excited that they wanted to sit down and sew. I used to sew, way back when we use to make all our clothes, and thought this would be an easy project. We worked all afternoon trying to make one of those skirt cover-ups for bathing suits. Being together, chatting and sewing was fun - even if our project ended up a little rough! Later, Melanie came back and figured out how to make one! Way to go Melanie!!
Last week my oldest daughter Melissa, called and want to know if I would make some burp cloths and baby blankets for some of her pregnant friends. I thought what a great idea and she could make the burps and maybe start to enjoy sewing a little.
When I sew, I like to have a old movie on or some rock and roll music. So I put on the “Eagles” for background noise and luckily Melissa new all the songs cause she was singing, dancing and sewing! While we sewed we talked about grandkids, shopping, sports, etc…. I had her using the rotary cutter, scissors, sewing machine and even ironing! She’s a very good student and I bet next time she could make her own.

It has come to the attention of Moda that there is a correction for the pattern. The table runner in the Royal Holiday Quilt Kit has the wrong mesurements.
Please measure the “jingle motif” panel before cutting. Cut panel 23″ instead of 24″ as directed in the pattern.
So gals, the next time you’re quilting and do something wrong, don’t get to upset about it because even the “professional” quilters make mistakes!

My SIL and I were making this quilt (Boys will be Boys kit) last weekend and ran into a big problem: the instructions gave the wrong size for cutting the panel.
Look at the picture of the quilt - notice the small 1/4″ of blue inner border - well, the instructions say cut the panel 22 1/2 inches - when I did that it only left 1/4″ of blue and that’s not enough for this border. When we went to put on the middles borders we were 1/2″ short! So…. when you cut out this panel add 1/2″ blue around the edge or make the panel 23″.
Have you ever made a quilt and then gave it away to someone and wondered what it looked like now? I had the chance to see one I had made and see first hand how it was holding up.
We drove to Florida for a vacation a couple of weeks ago with my daughter Melanie and her 2 kids. She had packed our truck with toys, pillows and blankets. The trip was 23 hours and on the way there I had a turn to sit in the back with the gkids; it was bedtime and they were asleep. Spencer was covered up with is his quilt that I had made (you can read about this in my blog: Sock Monkey Quilt Project ). The quilt was in great shape. The flannels hadn’t pilled or wrinkled, it was soft and cuddly, just like brand new.
Melanie said she washes this quilt at least twice a week! I am really impressed with the quality of Moda’s flannel!
