New Project!

I was so excieted to see Tammy’s new project that I asked her if she needed me to test it and she said yes!  I really wanted to make the center block into a wall hanging!  This block, part a beautiful quilt pattern designed by TK Harrison of Quiltalicious.com, which will be available at AbbiMays.com in January.   The fabric used is from  Surf & Sand  designed by Michele D’Amore from Marcus Brothers.

Yesterday I started my project and just love working with these sand and ocean colors.  After printing out the instructions and cutting out the templates for the waves and beach I layed them out on the block:

Now for the supplies need for this project. I like to take my applique projects when I travel and over the years have lost most of my special pins so I had to go digging for more.  Does your pin box look like mine?

I found 4 pins - that’ll work, found my only straw needle which is very used and has a slight bend in it. Whew I have freezer paper.

Here’s yesterdays progress: waves and beach are done:

My sewing room is my dining room table and today I need to clean the house because we have company coming for dinner.

Hmmm….clean house or applique, clean or applique – applique, for sure!

Easy Project: Table Runners or Placemats

As usual {sigh} - I’m behind on my shopping and needed a gift for a few favorite friends.  My sister was coming over and I enlisted her help.  I showed her the pattern from BOM QUILTS  and with a few modications we came up with a table runner.  We choose the jelly roll from Christmas Past.  We lined strips up on the table and began sewing them together.  She sewed, I ironed and handed her the next row of strips to sew together.  Why is it when everything is laid out on the table, in the correct order, we still sewed some strips together wrong?

We used 12 strips of fabric and cut them lenghtwise into 3 mats.  Here is our joint effort - it  was fun, fast and very easy:

On the back we wanted a more elegant fabric and used Vintage Holiday

Fun project to do with the G-kids: Memory Scrap book!

My friend Tammy, at BOMquilts.com, helped me out in a pinch when I needed a holiday hands-on craft project to do with my daughter’s 5th grade class.  I think this is the easiest project to do with any age grandkid.  The fun of it is that there’s no rules!  You can improvise for the embellishments if you don’t have the all supplies (like I had too), by using my sewing machine instead of rivets and glue:

This project was created with Charm Squares.  AbbiMays.com offers a number of charm packs, so be sure to check it out.

Christmas shopping for the Beagles!

Yes - they get gifts too! Grandkids and Beagles are at the top my shopping list.  Today I’m going to Pet Smart to get them gifts.  Lucie wants a new bed because it’s getting harder for her to jump up on ours.  Sammy is so darn skinny that she getting a rag quilt to cover up with.  Girlie Girl - the kid -wants a member ship to the gym and a cookie.

Next shopping for the rest of the animals in my family…Fluffy the fish (he hasn’t asked for much this year) and the other dogs belonging to my kids and friends!  This Gabby Abbi’s Granny says everyone deserves a little something for the holidays!

AbbiMays.com has some great flannels, perfect for a doggie blanket!  I especially like the 5 Funky Monkey flannel and the Winter Wonderland flannel - both of these lines are SO SOFT and perfect for your dog.  And of course, if you’d rather make your pampered pooch a cotton blanket, we have the Oodles of Poodles fabric that’s fun!

Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays! I Love Winter!

Can you tell I’m so very excited to be here?  I am, I am!  And I’m excited YOU are here, too!

Welcome to Gabby Abbi’s — the quilt shop blog with way more than fabric … quilting is a LIFESTYLE, and we’re so happy to be here to help you grow in your quilting!

And yes, we’re gabby {blush}.  And we love to have FUN, too!

First, some lovely photos of our winter wonderland found out my back door, in western Michigan.  I cannot tell you how much I love all of the seasons - but, winter holds a near and dear place to my heart.  It’s the pureness of it, I think.  And then my dogs go out and run and jump and make little doggie footprints all over the pristine, sparkly beauty!  Ah yes, perfection never lasts — but, it sure is fun to enjoy while it’s here!

I have had my Grandson all night.  He’s a blast, but I’m always ready for a deep breath when I send one of our grandchildren home.  It’s important for me to spend time with my children, and each grandchild, too.  One-on-one and together.  These are precious memories for me, and I cherish them.  And this Grandson is so easy to please — we had a “Harry Potter” movie marathon complete with popcorn and candy!

On to more Gabby Abbi fun!  Let us help you fill your Christmas lists!  We have a number of categories set up at AbbiMays.com just for this purpose - to help you shop without crowds!  Please click below to find what we have.
